For the past two years, I attended Sault College of Arts & Technology. I was taking Office Administration Executive. It's kind of funny how before I started attending school there, I had no urge to ever return once I graduated highschool. I mean, I knew I had to sooner or later, or risk ending up a bum, but I didn't really want to. I guess it's because from kindergarten up until I graduated highschool, I never had any liking for it. It's not surprising, considering that I hardly had any friends, and not many people talked to me. I had a few friends over the years, but I was never ever one of the 'popular kids'. Now that I look back, I don't mind that I wasn't popular. I guess you never mind the bad things so much once they're over and done with and the wounds have had time to heal. It's true, though. I don't mind now. I did then, though. Just once, I wanted to have people yelling my name in the hall being happy to see me and stuff. I would have liked to have been invited to the parties. I would have liked to have done a lot of things, but alas, I didn't. Anyway, it's in the past now, and I've moved on, and I did end up going back to school. Granted, I took a year off in between, but does that matter as long as the end result is the same? I think about it now, and if I hadn't taken that year off, I may not have had half the fun I did end up having. I probably wouldn't have met the people I met, either. Not just at school, either. I moved away for a year and met some really good friends while away during that year. Maybe it's true that everything happens for a reason, after all. Anyhow, enough of my rambling. Below you will find a few pictures of things that went on at school. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed being a part of them, but that's highly unlikely.
OUTBACK FUN
The Outback is the student life centre at Sault College. This is where all the students, as well as a few teachers, go between classes, or when, like me, they just don't go to class. Here you can get food, play pool, have a cigarette, do some homework, play a few arcade type games, have a cup of coffee, hang out with friends, play cards, or get drunk, starting at noon. You may not, however, start fires, throw paper airplanes, or have caps and/or confetti guns inside. Trust me on this, I speak from experience. Although I have now graduated, many memories have been made at school, and it will always be something I will remember. I'm actually pathetically sad not to be going back next year, but OSAP screwed me royally, so any hopes of doing so are dashed. Below you will be a few pictures and what not on some of the happenings that occurred in or around The Outback.
A Few Pictures
Here are a few of the everday faces from The Outback:
- In this picture you can see Carrie bringing out Shalon's birthday gift. Christine is sitting off to the side on the left, and Adam is wearing the black jacket.
- Here is Steph on the same day as Shalon's birthday surprise. At least she found it amusing.
- Luc is being awesome, as usual, and sitting in the dunk tank for Orientation Week.
- Shane hanging out.
- This is a picture of Kelli.
- Here's a picture of Chris, who is Kelli's boyfriend.
- Kyle is being weird, as usual. It makes sense, considering he is Luc's brother.
- Here is a picture of Mark and Terri.
- Here is Kyle again with John.
- Here is Newfie with his eyes closed.
- Sarah is making a face for the camera.
- John walks on in.
- Here is a picture of Mark and some guy I don't know. You can also see my stunning feet in this picture. You can also see a beer bottle, cigarettes, and a deck of cards. Typical.
Dilbert
This here is Dilbert. Dilbert was my birthday present from Carrie and Christine on my twenty-first birthday. There is more detail about him on the about me page. I would have more pictures of this, but Carrie lost the film, which is also mentioned on that page. After getting Dilbert, I seriously wanted to cry. I was completely humiliated. I had no idea I was getting that. Here are a few pictures of my birthday card. I say a few because it was really hard to get pictures. I was going to scan it, but then figured, what the hell, I'll just use my digital camera. It sucks, though, because the card has pictures that change depending on how you move it. So, look at them all and see if you can see what it is. So, here is picture one, picture two, and picture three. They're pretty crappy in quality, but it was the best I could do. Maybe I'll attempt again some other day. Anyway, although my birthday was humiliating, it turned out to be quite amusing in the end.
Veronica
These next few pictures focus on Shalon's birthday. Granted, nothing can take the place of Dilbert, but he was the first. After that stunt, everybody kind of figured we'd continue in the same direction for the birthdays of my friends. Veronica was Shalon's birthday present. In the picture you are looking at, Shalon is slightly embarassed to be seen with Veronica. We had to hide the doll in the girls bathroom and lock the stall and put an "OUT OF ORDER" sign up just to keep people from going in there. Everybody knew something was up, though, so you could see girls drifting off constantly to stand on the toilet to look into the stall or to peek under the stall door. This picture is of Veronica hugging Shalon. As you can see, she is still humiliated. I feel bad, now that I think about it, considering it wasn't even her idea to give me Dilbert. Oh, well, I suppose. It was all in good fun. And for the last picture, Shalon is outside fondling Veronica's boobs. I guess she got over her embarrassment, eh?
SNO DAZE
Ever year at Sault College a week long event takes place called SnoDaze. I didn't participate last year, but I had the opportunity to join in this year. It's actually a very fun filled week of nothing specific. My teachers let me miss classes, which was the best part. I skipped all the time, anyway, but they were just thrilled that I was taking part in a school event, so they didn't mind for that week. I don't think they realize that SnoDaze is just an excuse for the students to get drunk all the time and do stupid things. I don't know exactly what takes place each year, probably roughly the same ideas, but I will go into detail about this year. First of all, my team was called Team Shiznazz. Shane was the team captain. The rest of the team included Rossi, Long, MP, Marc, Kelli, Pat, Bob, Nicole, Sara, and myself. This area of the page will have many picture links. Three of us had digital cameras, so we all snapped pictures of whatever we thought was important for the particular event. I don't have pictures of all the events, but I have plenty of the rest.
Photo Scavenger Hunt
There were many different events that each team had to participate in to gain points. To begin with, there was a photo scavenger hunt. The teams had to trek around town snapping pictures of things that were on a list given to us by the 'officials'. The list is as follows:
- A picture with the mayor (This was difficult, since the mayor was out of town, so we got a counselor... I think.)
- A picture of team members drinking beer with the brew master at Northern Breweries (I think we should have gained bonus points for this one.)
- A picture of one male and one female member of the team running around a track in their underwear. (I do have a picture of this, but I will not post it out of courtesy to those individuals.)
- A picture of two teammates getting a product demonstration from a dirty store employee. (That dildo is nowhere near as nice as Dilbert)
- A picture of somebody sliding down a firepole. (This was difficult since there ARE no firepoles in my city. We improvised. That is a pole in front of a fire station; it's just not a 'firepole'.)
- A picture of a teammate being frisked by a city policeman.
- A picture of a male and female team member in a snow removal truck.
- A picture of team members going down the Fantasy Kingdom slides at the Bon Soo Festival.
- A picture of team members with a jackass/donkey. (It's a good thing that they specified, considering that this entire city is made up of jackasses.)
- A picture of a team member being the greeter at Wal-Mart.
- A picture of a team member drinking water from the local sewage plant. (Because we were not allowed to drink the sewage plant water, which is a good thing because we would probably die, we made our own.)
- A picture of the team playing the air guitar to Stairway To Heaven.
- A picture of a few teammates with hair coloured blue and green. (Bob, Shane, and I did this, but this is the best picture out of them all.)
- A picture of some teammates with the Dean. (Apparently the Dean was leaving town right after this picture was taken and nobody else had asked for it, so we
think that we are the only ones who got it. WE ROCK!)\
- A picture of the team having shots at Foggy Notions, a local bar.
- A picture of somebody getting a picture with a stripper at the Pure Platinum, which is a local strip club here.
- A picture of our beauty queen getting a massage from a massage therapy student.
Canoggin'
Besides taking pictures, we also had to do a number of other things. One such event was canoggin'. Canoggin' is the same as tobogganing, except you use a canoe. This was a very fun event, if not difficult. First of all, it was -50bajilliondegrees outside that night. Secondly, a few of our teammates did not show up until the last minute, which would have been awful, considering that one such teammate is one of the stronger guys, and we desperately needed him to help bring the canoe back up the hill. He did show up, though, at almost the last minute. Actually, that is how Bob ended up on our team. We needed help; he was willing. So, the point of this event is to go down the hill and back up in the shortest amount of time. Just imagine a bunch of drunken college kids going down the hill in a canoe. We did fairly well, but we still didn't win. Sadly, a lot of the events seemed to have been fixed, but it's not really important, I suppose. We all had a great time, and that is most important. Here are the pictures from that particular event:
- This is a picture of us getting ready to go down the hill.
- Here we are getting into the canoe. I got to sit at the front.
- Unfortunately, the canoe had to be brought back up the hill. I believe that Marc ended up doing a lot of it on his own, even though in the picture you see Rossi and Long.
Beauty Queen
Another event was the beauty queen pageant. At the beginning of SnoDaze, each team had to pick a male to be their beauty queen. We all voted Shane. Every night of the week, there were different events for the queens, such as swimsuit, nightwear, eveningwear, etc. There was also a talent show, and I must admit, Shane did excellent. He is the most flexible guy I have ever seen. Here is the best picture that I have of Shane doing his talent in his 'slutwear', as I call it. There is also a picture of Shane on one of the evenings. All the queens had to participate in a game of Twister. We all knew Shane would win. I'm serious when I say he's flexible. Here is the proof. This is a picture of Shane partially dressed up for evening wear. He had his kilt on, too, because we were doing our 'grand entrance' that night, but the beauty pageant was right after.
Keg Toss
Another event that took place was the keg toss. This is pretty self-explanatory. You throw a keg as far as you can. It was a pretty hard event to judge, though, because the rope you were supposed to start throwing at kept moving closer and closer to where the previous keg had landed, making it easier to throw it further. We tried to voice our opinions on this, but what we said didn't matter, apparently. I, thankfully, did not have to demonstrate my weakness in front of the crowd because only three males and three females had to participate. The stipulation, though, was that that queen had to participate as a girl. It was really cold out that night, as well. I don't know who I'm kidding, I live in Canada, of course it's cold. Here are a few pictures of that event:
- Bob throws the keg.
- Kelli throws the keg.
- Long throws the keg. Here is another picture of Long throwing the keg. It's foggy in this one, or maybe it's just snow blowing around.
- Marc throws the keg. Marc actually qualified for the second round of keg tossing that night. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, considering how cold it was. Here is another picture of Marc braving the elements with no jacket trying to pick up distance.
- Last, but definitely not least, is Shane throwing the keg. This, I'm sure, was extremely difficult for him. Look at how he is dressed. Kelli and I had picked out shoes for him at Value Village, too. It's a shame they didn't fit, but like the true sport that he is, Shane kept them on for most of the entire night. He paid for it the next day with awful blisters and sores. What a trooper!
Poo Eating Contest
Although there were a few indoor games played during SnoDaze, I think that the 'Poo Eating/Spitting Contest' was one of the favourites, or at least one of the more amusing. The object was to see who could get the most 'poo' from the diaper into the plastic cups using only their mouths in the given time limit. Marc did the honours for this event, and he was great. Everybody knows we won hands down, but some jackass started throwing the cups around and we got disqualified because they assumed we were doing it, too. Here are a few pictures from that event:
- Here is a picture of the diaper that Marc will be eating out of.
- Marc looks ready to kick some SnoDaze ass!
- There is nothing like a bunch of poo-filled diapers to make you hungry, eh?
- Here is a picture of the speakers after the pudding went flying.
Polar Bear Swim
Another event that took place was the polar bear swim. This was the last day of SnoDaze, which was probably for the best I woke up with an awful cold that morning. I did the event anyway, though, though I knew I would have hell to pay for it. I was right. I suffered for the next couple weeks with an awful cold that would not go away There was no way, though, that I was going to let down my team, and I was especially not going to back out and be called a coward later. Unfortunately, though, not many from my team went out for this event. Actually, only two of us did. My friend Christine, who was not on a team but had participated in previous years, went with us, but her presence did not score us any marks from the judges. My other friend, Carrie, also went, but she was on another team called "Dude, Where's My Skidoo", so she didn't score us points, either. It was a lot of fun, though, and I would definitely do it again.
For those of you who are uneducated in Sault Ste. Marie events, Bon Soo is a festival that lasts for approximately a week. It's fun for the whole family with skating events, the Fantasy Kingdom, sculptures, etc. One of the most popular events is the Polar Bear Swim. To do this event, you must jump into the St. Mary's River in the middle of winter. It's very cold, but after having done it once, I would definitely do it again. If little old ladies and men can do it, so can I. Anyway, with no further ado, here are the Polar Bear Swim pictures:
- Here is a picture of Bon Soo.
- This is a picture of Christine and myself. I look like crap, but I hadn't really gone to any effort to make myself look good that morning considering I felt like poo, and I knew I was going to be jumping into freezing cold water in the middle of winter. I am wearing Team Shiznazz's kilt that Shane made for each team member and the shirt that every jumper from Sault College received.
- Here is a picture of the 'change room', if it can be called that. All it was, really, was a truck with a heater in it. It was really hot, though, like a sauna. It sucked going in there and then having to walk outside. Pneumonia, anybody?
- Here is a picture of Rossi before he jumped in. He, too, is wearing his kilt. He and I jumped in together. There's nothing like team spirit.
- Here is a picture of Rossi and Christine before making the jump.
- Rossi is looking very thoughtful after jumping in. I wonder if he's thinking about how much a body part can shrink due to cold water.
- Here I am doing some cheering thing while waiting for Christine to get the car.
Snow Sculpture
Each year, the SnoDaze teams have to each build a snow sculpture of some sort. This year, we only had two days to build it in, but we were allowed to use snow equipment, such as snowblowers. Our team, though, didn't have access to a snowblower, so we did it the old-fashioned way -- with hands, shovels, and willpower. Considering that we didn't start building this until the day it was due to be judged, I think it turned out awesome. Actually, I didn't help. I had a test that morning, and although my teachers were pretty lenient about letting me miss classes for SnoDaze events, I don't think they'd have approved of missing a test. By the time I got outside, the sculpture was done. It only took them a couple of hours to do. Here are the pictures of our snow sculpture -- the hummer:
- Here is a picture when there is no sculpture to be seen yet.
- The sculpture has a nice start to it.
- The sculpture is quickly starting to take shape.
- Here the sculpture is complete. Awesome, eh?
Chili Cook Off
The chili cook off is another event that was held during SnoDaze. It took place in The Outback the same day as the Polar Bear Swim. I missed it, though, because I went home to bed. Below you will find a few pictures of Pat making and his chili:
Here is Pat assuring everybody that everything is great.
Pat's chili is done at last.
Here Pat's chili is being judged by the judges... as if they would do anything else.
Here Pat is taking it easy after all that hard work.
Wrestling
SnoDaze also brought about a wrestling match on the last day. I missed some of it, but I did show up to see our teammate, Rossi, wrestle. Unfortunately, he didn't win, but he put a good effort forth. Here are a few of the better pictures:
- I believe Rossi is threatening Long here.
- Here Rossi is fighting people outside the ring.
- Rossi did win a few of his fights, and here is the picture.
